It Works... Until It Doesn't

Some things are working- now it's time to smooth out the rough spots.

What This Means

✔️Some parts of the day feel steady, but the rest keeps getting thrown off.

✔️Your child needs simple, predictable steps so they know what to do- without you having to repeat yourself ten times.

✔️Bedtime seems to drag on forever.

What Your Child May Be Experiencing:

Confusion without clear and consistent expectations, "Sometimes Mom lets me play video games for an hour but sometimes she yells at me to get off after 30 minutes"

✅Feels like they are always being nagged to do something else (especially things they don't like)

✅Wants to be more independent but doesn't have predictable steps to follow

Fix This Next...

🕒Keep the Order the Same

Build simple rhythms into your day- get ready before you eat breakfast, homework gets done before video games, shower before bedtime music, etc.

🔁Use First, Then

"First it's time to set the table, then you can watch YouTube until dinner". Even if your routine isn't always predictable, giving clues for what happens first and later puts a picture in your child's head of what they need to do.

Add a Countdown Cue

"One more song and then it's time to get pajamas on". Transitions can be hard for kids with ADHD, especially if they don't know they're coming.

These are quick wins you can try right away- but to make your whole day run smoother, you'll need a routine that's designed specifically for how the ADHD brain is differently wired.
